To show how fast education is changing, DunlopWeb has spent a lot of time in the last 18 months working on sites in Moodle. Moodle is a fantastic system that allows for all aspects of a course to be hosted online. Most of this work has been undertaken for the Brighton School of Business and Management, but we are now working on a Moodle application aimed at online language tuition.

This fantastic new website was created for the Stage One hair salon in Brighton‘s Bond Street. The site reflects the theatrical nature of their work; hair is crucial to the way we all feel and the team at Stage One make you feel terrific! Construction Company

The Brighton-based building company AM Construction (Southern) came to Dunlop Web asking for a new website to reflect their new branding. It had to be easy for them to edit themselves, and it had to look clean and crisp. Unusually for Dunlop Web clients, they were not particularly interested in Search Engine positioning at this stage. But they wanted to be able to use the site to promote their business in the future.

The solution we came up with was a site created entirely in WordPress: and as WordPress is extremely Search Engine friendly, when the time is right promotion will be considerably easier than without.

AM Construction now have a site that will work for them and that they can change in-house without having to ask outside agencies for help. They can add their own Case Studies to reflect what they do, and can add their own news items to keep their contacts up-to-date with their business. Selling Budkins Doll

I love the way clients ask DunlopWeb to promote products that I have never heard of, so I have to go and find out all about the thing, and whether anybody is actually looking for them. Last week I had a call from an old client, Choice Dolls Houses, asking us to promote Budkin dolls.

The campaign for Choice Dolls Houses has been tremendously successful as you can see from their Google results, and usually when we are asked to promote a particular product it works. Dolls houses are particularly popular at Christmas and the proprietors of Choice usually spend January / February on holiday recovering!

So that’s our work for February – promoting Budkin dolls. I would be interested to know what you think of them – and whether you think they would fit into a child’s dolls house. So I guess the campaign starts here!

Power of Local Business

For some business and services, people still trust people that they know rather than relying on Search Engines to provide the answer. I know it sounds odd for a business like DunlopWeb to extol the power of face-to-face networking, but it’s how I have always done business. That is also why I spend so much time networking both locally and abroad; it always pays dividends.

This morning was the 10th birthday of business networking group The Breakfast Club, an association I have been a member of for 8 years. In that time I have grown from a nobody doing business with strangers to a recognised member of the Brighton & Hove business community. And part of that growth was down to The Breakfast Club.

You ignore your local business community at your peril – and you can even make good friends over a regular breakfast.

New Year, New Business

2010 has brought a few changes, not least the launch of DunlopWeb Ltd. After 8 years working in Search Engine Optimisation and managing website build, it was time to spend more time working on personal projects and developing further Search Marketing skills.

So as 2010 dawned, it was time to move on from being Web Projects director at i-Zimbra and launch DunlopWeb.

The company starts off with no web presence and no identity, just like all the start-ups I have worked with over the years – and just like all start-ups I am looking forward to setting my own agenda! Here’s to 2010.
